Single-Session Consultations (SSC) are structured, one-time mental and behavioral health visits designed to empower children, teens, and families make meaningful progress with just a single appointment.

In traditional therapy, the first visit often focuses on introductions, paperwork, and gathering background history. While that process is important, it can be challenging for families who have already coordinated school schedules, taken time off work, arranged transportation, and completed insurance forms only to leave without concrete tools or steps for what to try next.

Plus, research has also shown that many people who begin therapy only attend one session. Single-Session Consultations were designed with this reality in mind.

Developed by Dr. Jessica Schleider and the Lab for Scalable Mental Health at Northwestern University, SSCs are evidence-based care designed to help individuals and families make meaningful progress in a single visit.

In a 45–60 minute, goal-led and solutions-focused session, your child will work with a trained professional to:

  • Talk through what’s happening and identify the most important challenge to focus on
  • Learn practical strategies that can help right away
  • Leave with clear next steps and a plan for moving forward

Many families find that one focused conversation can bring clarity, confidence, and meaningful progress, and while some families choose to pursue ongoing therapy afterward, others find that a Single-Session Consultation provides exactly the support they needed.

Montana Pediatrics is proud to bring this innovative approach to mental health care to families across Montana.
