What is a Single Session Consultation?
Many children and teens in Montana are facing challenges related to anxiety, stress, big transitions, and everyday struggles that come with growing up. A Single Session Consultation (SSC) is a new way to support your family’s mental health — a one-time, 45–60 minute video visit, without the commitment of traditional ongoing counseling or therapy. Your child or family will meet with a licensed counselor or a trained mental health coach and leave with a clear plan for what to try next. SSCs are quick, evidence-based, and require no referral — developed by the Lab for Scalable Mental Health at Northwestern University, and we’re excited to be one of the first to bring them to Montana families.
- One video visit, 45–60 minutes — join from any internet-connected device, no app to download.
- Licensed counselor or trained coach — matched to your family’s situation, not a one-size-fits-all visit.
- A practical plan, not just a conversation — you’ll leave with concrete strategies and clear next steps.
- Evidence-based — built on the SSC model from the Lab for Scalable Mental Health, proven effective for families like yours.
Support for every age and stage
Whatever’s coming up — big or small — there’s a session shaped for where your child is right now, from early childhood through the high school years, plus support for siblings and families navigating change together.
- Early Childhood (4–5)* — separation anxiety, starting school, parenting support.
- Elementary (5–11) — bullying, friendships, big emotions.
- Middle School (11–14) — motivation, sleep, self-confidence, phone habits.
- High School+ (14–19) — college stress, performance anxiety, feeling overwhelmed.
*A parent or guardian joins this session.
Choosing the right kind of support
When you request care, we’ll help match your family with the right person for your situation.
- Mental Health Coach — for everyday stressors: Life transitions, decision-making, and relationship friction — focused on your child’s strengths and a clear next step.
- Licensed Counselor — for deeper support: Best if your child has a recent diagnosis, or has sought care for trauma, anxiety, or depression before.
*Only Licensed Counselors are able to accept insurance — choose that option if you’d like to use your plan.
Both options are $75 cash pay, and financial assistance is available either way.
